Description

The beginning of an assemblage sculpture for Unisa art degree. I thoroughly enjoy doing this. It involves a lot of work and experimentation. Each piece is disassembled, and then made into something else entirely, sprayed white, and then given a rinse of dirty paint :) ...

The theme I always seem to be pulled towards, is man and the environment, religion, war etc... This is just the beginning of course, as I remove parts and add others, But i hope to show by photo documenting the process, the evolution of the piece.

A lot of it comes together quite naturally, the initial idea set out by what i have to work with, and what I need to acquire, and the rest kind of builds itself according to things I see while out, and each thing fitting in it's right place.

I think this piece will focus more on the beauty of chaos, and the chaos in beauty. Birth, Life, death. I am trying to stay away from a hugely religious theme this time, but already there is a subtle narrative creeping in using the nativity and the three kings. As always, the work will mean different things for each person.

These were going to be on my other (traditional) gallery, but my subscription is up so I may as well put them here, (I may use both) But for a look at the earlier works, please go here [link]

Or look at these for an idea.

(These are not all just found and stuck together, most things have been molded and cast for replication)

Already I feel that this new one is going to be a million times better than those three from last year, much more thought and hours are going into this.

All of this is usually made to a soundtrack, normally presenting itself as I work as the track most fitting to the idea. It may change for the final work, but as i construct/deconstruct the song which it attaching itself to the work is the new MONO - the battle to heaven (off their new HYMN TO THE IMMORTAL WIND)
